About the club

The West Blackdown Model Gliding Club is based on the Somerset/Devon border. We fly at lots of sites. Local sites include Culmstock Beacon, near Wellington and Hartridge near Luppitt. Other sites on private land can be used by club members and their guests. We have a good relationship with other clubs in the South West and Wales and club members often travel to sites on Dartmoor,Wiltshire and in Wales for sport events and competitions. We also have the use of several fields for flat field flying. See the Flying Sites; page for details. The Club promotes glider flying so motorised flying is not permitted on the slope sites. However, electric power (for height gain only) is OK at our flat field sites. Currently, the Club has a membership of 31 and new members and beginners are always welcome.

Instruction and advice on planes and equipment is freely given to those wishing to take up the activity. We hold several evening meetings throughout the year where you can get together with other club members over a pint. We also have some special site events. For details see the Meetings page. To get a real flavour of the club take a look at the Newsletter Archive, the photo gallery and the Video Page. If you would like further information contact a commitee member via the Contacts page. If you would like to enquire about membership, please contact the Membership Secretary, Pete Guyan, whose details are on the Membership page.
